Summer 80m FT4 Contest - 22 April 2020

Thanks for entering the first-ever UKEICC FT4 contest. We were pleased to receive 45 entries (incl 3 checklogs) The finalised results are shown below. Congratulations to Vidas LY2SA on a hat-trick - winning on all the three different modes this month. Congratulations to Vlad UA6CE and the other section winners. Also to Nigel G3TXF as leading UK/EI entrant, narrowly beating his long-term contesting partner Ian G3WVG. UBN files are being sent out today Friday 24th.
Our Automated section was an experiment, which I hope those entrants who entered that section enjoyed. Some entrants were unsure about what we meant by NonAutomated and Automated, so we have improved these definitions in the Rules : NonAutomated - the FT4 software (WSJT-X, MSHV, JTDX, other) requires operator intervention to complete more than one QSO. The human operator has to repeatedly click on buttons to work stations in sequence, and also to log each FT4 QSO. Note - WSJT-X has an 'auto-sequence' tick box which is poorly named - all it does is auto-sequence for one QSO, then the operator has to click the red 'Enable TX' button to call CQ or work the next station. Automated - after one press of a button, the FT4 software (WSJT-X, MSHV, JTDX, other) carries out all the actions associated with making a series of QSOs automatically and logging each QSO automatically - with no operator intervention needed. (Usually by using macros or other FT4/FT8 automation add-ons)
73 Chris GM3WOJ, Tim G4FJK, Paul G4PVM - Adjudicators. Next FT4 event - 20th May 2020

Soapbox

Wow, that was straightforward. A verry nice 1h event, please keep it up! -- DG9BEO Completely new to this, had no idea of settings for it. I think more by luck than judgement, anyway right or wrong there it is! 73 and thanks all stations worked and I missed using EI5DI SD on this occasion. -- G3LRS software problems at start sound card wouldn't transmit but worked before contest! -- G3VGZ Thank you for organising the contest, but FT4 is still a dreadful mode! -- G3WVG I enjoyed my first Joe-Taylor-Contest, and I have much to learn. -- G4FJK Might help if people checked the waterfall to avoid transmitting over another station or even try 3579 as well? Several stations "lost" to the QRM but good fun. -- G4NBS Automated (mostly!) station. Thanks for the QSOs - 73 Chris -- GM3WOJ A bit difficult this one. Seeing distance but not working them. Thanks everyone. -- GM4JYB Slow second half hour -- GW0ETF Some software/radio glitches. I found it hard working Russia/E.Europeans. -- M1DDD Thanks for the Q's - Stay Safe and 73 Phil -- M2D
